Klines Corner: Wayne Selden Reclassifies

In this week's edition of Kline's Corner, The Recruit Scoop answers five intriguing questions about the high school basketball recruiting scene - specifically focusing on 2014 shooting guard Wayne Selden - who reclassified back to the class of 2013 on Friday and will be a senior heading into the fall at Tilton School in New Hampshire. Selden went over five major topics that led to this move and his plans for the future with Rivals.com on Friday.

WHAT WERE THE FACTORS THAT WENT INTO RECLASSING BACK TO THE CLASS OF 2013?

A number of factors played a role in the decision of Selden. With a very smart family and a great education at Tilton School, he was fine academically and in a position to graduate on time, if not earlier. "I just felt that going back to my originally class was the right move," he told Rivals.com. "I would be physically ready and at Tilton I worked hard in the classroom so I am academically ready." This move comes on the heels of his former Tilton and BABC teammate, Nerlens Noel , making the same exact move. With Selden being clear academically and having the right physically tools with an outstanding amount of strength and athleticism, he will be ready to play at a high level of competition in college starting in the fall of 2013.

DID NERLENS NOEL'S RECLASSIFICATION EARLIER IN THE YEAR HAVE ANY IMPACT ON YOURS?

As reclassifying a grade up or a grade down has been frequent at prep schools, especially ones in New England, Selden becomes the latest to make the move. As mentioned earlier, Noel and also NBA Draft prospect and former UConn player Andre Drummond made similar moves. Selden's comes at a much better time as he will have a chance to prove his value this summer in numerous elite camps throughout the country in hopes of earning an invite to the McDonald's All American game. His decision, however, had nothing to do with seeing his friend, Nerlens Noel, make the same move. "It really didn't," he told Rivals.com. "This has been a thought between me and my family for a while now." Selden thinks this is the right decision, as does his family.

WILL THE MOVE TO 2013 IMPACT SELDEN'S RECRUITMENT IN ANY WAY?

The move to 2013 has no impact on Selden's recruitment besides that fact that it will speed the process up by a year and he will have to take visits and narrow his list soon. He currently holds offers from Pittsburgh, Boston College, UConn, Providence, Kentucky, Ohio State, Missouri, Florida, UCLA, Virginia and Kansas with some interest from Duke and North Carolina. He has only visited Boston College, Providence and UConn - the local schools - so trips will need to be planned. He says that UCLA, Florida, Ohio State and Kansas are recruiting him the hardest. Seeing his friend Noel succeed at Kentucky this year, which is more than likely, could certainly impact his recruitment but he remains wide open at the moment.

WHAT ARE SELDEN'S PLANS FOR THE FUTURE NOW THAT HE MUST TAKE VISITS AND DECIDE ON A COLLEGE SOON?

With the same schools being involved for Roxbury, MA native at this point, Selden needs to hurry up the process and begin to take visits. He had hopes of visiting UCLA while out at Pangos All-American camp in California last weekend but never had a chance to make it there. Obviously, UConn has the advantage of being local, but now that he is a senior, Selden will be able to take his five official visits and weigh his decision. The only thing is, he has no clue where he wants to go yet. "No plans have been set yet," he said. Look for the Buckeyes, Gators, Jayhawks, Wildcats, Bruins and many others to try and persuade him to their campus.

HOW LONG HAD THIS POTENTIAL DECISION BEEN IN THE AIR TO RECLASSIFY BACK?

The decision to move back to the class of 2013 has been on Selden's mind for a long time dating back to last year as he contemplated back and forth about it. As he became more serious about it, he began to take classes at Tilton that would get him academically ready to be a senior at the school. "This has been a thought between me and my family for a while now," he said on Friday. "I think I have all the tools to be ready for college following my senior year."

Look for Selden to begin to narrow down his list and eventually set a list of five to seven schools that he is interested in and eventually visit a number of them.
